VF-Link tapping / protocol question

Hi,

we are trying to insert a tap inbetween the VF-links in order to chase down packet loss in our network. The analyser appliance which receives the data from the passive tap only sees bytes but cannot seem to identify any sort of protocol or packets / frames.

Is it possible that there's a vendor specific protocol being used for the VF-link communication?

You are correct, IS-IS VC is the proprietary protocol used for managing a Virtual Chassis mesh topology
